SEOUL, Dec. 17 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's court on Tuesday issued an arrest warrant against a martial law commander on insurrection and other charges, according to multiple media outlets.
The warrant was issued by a Seoul court to arrest Park An-su, army chief of staff, who served as chief of the martial law command after impeached President Yoon Suk-yeol's imposition of an emergency martial law on the night of Dec. 3 which was repealed by the National Assembly hours later.
Park was suspended from his duties, joining a number of other military commanders, during a probe into their role in Yoon's martial law imposition.
Prosecutors requested the writ as Park engaged in an important mission of the alleged insurrection by announcing the first martial law decree in his name to prohibit all political activities, including the National Assembly's revocation of the martial law imposition.
The second motion to impeach Yoon was passed through the National Assembly on Dec. 14 and was delivered to the constitutional court to deliberate it for up to 180 days, during which Yoon's presidential power will be suspended. Enditem
