JAKARTA, Dec. 17 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia's state-owned oil and gas company Pertamina plans to process used cooking oil (UCO) into environmentally friendly aviation fuel as part of its green energy agenda.

The plan will be carried out by Pertamina's subsidiary, PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional (KPI), under the Green Refinery Cilacap Project in collaboration with UCO exporter PT Gapura Mas Lestari.

The project is estimated to process feedstock with a capacity of 6,000 barrels per day to produce hydrotreated vegetable oil and sustainable aviation fuel. According to Pertamina, the production is estimated to reach around 300,000 kiloliters per year.

"This is an innovation from Pertamina to produce sustainable and more efficient fuel. We continue to develop renewable energy by utilizing the energy sources available in our country," said Fadjar Djoko Santoso, vice president of corporate communication at PT Pertamina, in a written statement published on Tuesday.

President Director of KPI Taufik Aditiyawarman said that the project aims to provide alternative energy sources, create added value for the community, support local development, and reduce environmental impacts.

"We believe that with the spirit of collaboration and commitment from all parties, this project will be able to overcome various obstacles and become a successful example in the development of sustainable energy," he said. Enditem
