TASHKENT, Dec. 18 (Xinhua) -- The death toll from a gas station explosion in the eastern Uzbek city of Ferghana has increased to four people, local media reported Wednesday, citing officials.

The explosion, which occurred on Tuesday, killed one person and injured four others. Three of the wounded died in hospital, bringing the death toll from the incident to four, according to local reports.

A criminal investigation has been opened into the incident. Five people have been taken into custody as part of the investigation.

It is reported that the incident was caused by a failure to comply with safety regulations while liquefied gas was discharged. Enditem
