NEW DELHI, Dec. 19 (Xinhua) -- At least five militants were killed with joint contingents of government forces Thursday in a fierce gunfight in Indian-controlled Kashmir, police said.
The gunfight broke out at village Kader of Kulgam, about 70 km south of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir.
"Today, five militants were killed in the Kader area of Kulgam during a gunfight with joint contingents of police, paramilitary and army," a police official said. "The identification of the slain militants is being ascertained, and a search operation is underway in the area."
According to police, the gunfight began after government forces launched a search operation in the area on specific intelligence information about the presence of militants. Enditem
