PHNOM PENH, Dec. 20 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia's imports of diesel fuel and petroleum oils increased by 11.3 percent in the first 11 months of 2024, according to the latest report from the Ministry of Commerce on Friday.
The value of diesel fuel and petroleum oil imports totalled 2.18 billion U.S. dollars during the January-November period, up 11.3 percent year-on-year, the report said.
The Southeast Asian country spent 1.3 billion dollars on diesel fuel and 876 million dollars on petroleum oils in the first 11 months of this year, a year-on-year rise of 10 percent and 13 percent, respectively, the report added.
Cambodia currently relies entirely on the imports of diesel fuel and petroleum oils as its seabed's oil reserves have not been exploited yet.
The Ministry of Mines and Energy has projected that the demand for oil products in Cambodia will increase to 4.8 million tons in 2030, up from 2.8 million tons in 2020.
At gas stations on Friday, regular gasoline costs 3,900 riel (0.97 U.S. dollar) per liter, as diesel goes for 3,750 riel (0.93 dollar).
According to the Ministry of Commerce's report, the kingdom also imported all kinds of vehicles totally worth nearly 908 million dollars in the first 11 months of 2024, up 7.2 percent year-on-year. Enditem
