VIENTIANE, Dec. 20 (Xinhua) -- The Lao government is seeking to tighten safety measures for hydropower dams across the country to ensure secure and sustainable operations in the future.
In parallel with the annual meeting of the Lao Association on Dams (LAD), the seventh LAD Technical Meeting was held on Thursday with the theme of "Safety First: Protecting our dams to secure our future", Lao national TV reported on Friday.
LAD aims to be a center for the exchange of knowledge and good experiences in the field of dam safety between relevant government sectors, Lao and international dam communities, and stakeholders, LAD President Khampaseuth Thepvongsa said in a speech.
"Over a year ago, the association achieved several impressive results through practical implementation in terms of promoting safety and sustainability of dams, as well as extending external cooperation with domestic and international partners," he said.
The Lao government will continue to prioritize dam safety, environmental management, and community responsibility in areas with operational projects by applying innovation and high standards, while also focusing on supporting residents, according to Lao national TV. Enditem
