ADDIS ABABA, Dec. 20 (Xinhua) -- Ethiopia posted an export revenue of 2.6 billion U.S. dollars in the first five months of the current fiscal year, which began on July 8, State Minister of Trade and Regional Integration Yasmin Wohabrebbi has said.

Speaking at a public-private dialogue forum on pulse and oilseed export in Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia, Wohabrebbi said the country's export in major agricultural commodities, including pulses and oilseeds, has been growing remarkably in recent years, the state-run Ethiopian News Agency (ENA) reported on Thursday.

Ethiopia, which exported over 670 million dollars worth of pulses and oilseeds during the previous fiscal year, projects a 10 percent increase in export volume in the sector in the current fiscal year.

The state minister attributed the increase in the export of agricultural commodities in recent years to the government's comprehensive economic reform and various enabling initiatives.

She stressed the need for reinforcing collaboration with all stakeholders to eradicate contraband trade, properly utilizing the opportunity that the African Continental Free Trade Area agreement can present, increasing production and productivity, and modernizing the marketing system to transform the country's export trade.

China has been a major destination for Ethiopian export of pulses and oilseeds in the past decade, particularly sesame seeds, one of the country's top export commodities.

Ethiopia's export sector is dominated by agricultural products.

The country aims to post 5 billion dollars in export revenue in the current fiscal year, according to the ENA. Enditem
