VILNIUS, Dec. 20 (Xinhua) -- Lithuania's parliament on Thursday approved the 2025 state budget, which raises national defense spending to 4 percent of GDP, the Baltic News Service reported.

Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda hailed the increase, contrasting it with the previous government's plan to cut defense expenditure.

The draft budget allocated 2.5 billion euros (about 2.6 billion U.S. dollars) or over 3 percent of GDP for defense, but the new government raised the borrowing limit by roughly 800 million euros (832 million dollars) to meet the 4 percent target.

Nauseda emphasized the need to toughen fiscal disciplines, as some of the funds will need to be borrowed.

The total 2025 budget includes 17.98 billion euros (18.69 billion dollars) in revenues and 23.1 billion euros (24.0 billion dollars) in expenditures. Enditem
