BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Dec. 20 (Xinhua) -- Twenty participants have completed the Basic Mental Health Training Course for community leaders in Brunei, local media reported on Friday.
According to the local daily Borneo Bulletin, the 12-week course exposed participants to counseling techniques, Islamic psychology, and discussions on integrated scientific and medical treatments.
Nor Syahmun, the head of Mental Health Strategy at the Health Promotion Center (HPC) of Brunei, said that mental health is as important as physical health and is a vital aspect of overall well-being.
The unique approach of this course combines psychological and mental health methods, conventional therapy and counseling approaches, with Islamic perspectives, including the recitation of Al-Quran verses, said Syahmun.
Participants selected for the course are expected to serve as frontline mental health support providers and ambassadors within their communities, according to the Borneo Bulletin.
