RAMALLAH, Dec. 22 (Xinhua) -- A Palestinian security officer was killed Sunday in clashes with Palestinian gunmen in Jenin refugee camp, northern West Bank, as Palestinian security forces launched a large-scale operation to regain control of the camp.
The slain officer, identified as Saher Arheel, was gunned down by an armed group while performing his duty, Anwar Rajab, spokesperson for the Palestinian security forces, said in a press statement.
He added that this "heinous crime" will not deter the security services from continuing their efforts to pursue outlaws and maintain security and stability.
The Palestinian security forces have launched a large-scale security campaign in Jenin camp since mid-December to crack down on lawbreakers to ensure public security. Enditem
