RAMALLAH, Dec. 24 (Xinhua) -- Two Palestinians, including a woman, were killed on Tuesday in Israeli bombing and gunfire on Tulkarm refugee camp in the northern West Bank, according to Palestinian sources.
Palestinian security sources told Xinhua that an Israeli drone bombed a gathering of Palestinians in the camp, whereas the Palestinian Red Crescent Society said in a brief statement that its crews received the dead body of an elderly woman.
The organization added that three others, including a child, were injured in the shelling.
A young Palestinian man was killed earlier in the day by Israeli army gunfire in the camp, Faisal Salama, coordinator of Palestinian forces and factions in Tulkarm, told Xinhua, adding that Israeli forces prevented ambulance crews from transporting the man's body to the hospital.
According to Salama, Israeli bulldozers on Tuesday destroyed homes, citizens' properties, roads and other infrastructure in the camp during a military operation.
Local sources and eyewitnesses said violent clashes erupted between Palestinian gunmen and Israeli forces in the camp, with sounds of huge explosions being heard.
In separate statements, Palestinian armed factions said their members detonated a number of highly explosive devices in Israeli military vehicles in the camp.
Meanwhile, Israeli army spokesperson Avichay Adraee said in a statement that the Israel Defense Forces, Shin Bet and police forces launched a brigade operation in the camp, during which "a terrorist was neutralized in a direct confrontation."
"Forces are still operating in the area to thwart terrorism," he said.
The West Bank has been witnessing an escalation of tension since Oct. 7, 2023, with more than 800 Palestinians killed by Israeli gunfire and shelling across the territory, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry. Enditem
