LUSAKA, Dec. 24 (Xinhua) -- Passengers aboard a train escaped uninjured after the vehicle crashed with a truck in Choma district in southern Zambia Tuesday.
The accident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday at a level crossing involving a northbound train and a truck and trailer loaded with floor tiles en route to South Africa.
According to Sombe Longwani-Ngo'nga, public relations manager of Zambia Railways Limited, preliminary investigations have revealed that the truck driver failed to stop at the level crossing, leading to the collision with the passenger train.
"The truck capsized and a locomotive and genset coach derailed. The incident did not result in any injuries or fatalities, but caused damage to the truck, locomotive and genset coach," the manager said in a statement. "The failure by the truck driver to observe the traffic rules is unfortunate as it posed a huge risk to the many lives that were on the passenger train." Enditem
