RAMALLAH, Dec. 25 (Xinhua) -- A Palestinian was killed in an Israeli airstrike in the West Bank on Wednesday, the Ramallah-based Palestinian Health Ministry said in a press statement.

Rayan Bani Odeh, 17, died from critical injuries he sustained in the airstrike on the town of Tamoun, south of Tubas, according to the ministry.

An Israeli drone targeted a group of young men in the town with a missile, according to local sources and eyewitnesses.

The Israeli army has not commented on the incident yet.

Meanwhile, the Israeli army announced in a press statement that an officer was injured when an explosive device targeting a military vehicle exploded during an ongoing military operation in the city of Tulkarm.

No Palestinian group has claimed responsibility for the explosion yet.

The Israeli army has been carrying out a large-scale military operation since Tuesday in the Tulkarm and Nur Shams refugee camps.

In a press statement, Rawhi Fattouh, head of the Palestinian National Council, condemned the ongoing "crimes" committed by the Israeli army in the West Bank during Christmas.

The West Bank has witnessed escalating tensions since Oct. 7, 2023, resulting in the deaths of more than 800 Palestinians from Israeli gunfire and airstrikes, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health. Enditem
