MADRID, Dec. 25 (Xinhua) -- La Liga's joint bottom club, Valencia on Wednesday named Carlos Corberan as its new first team coach.
The 41-year-old who is from Valencia, leaves English Championship side, West Bromwich Albion to replace Ruben Baraja after the former coach was sacked on Monday after Valencia's 2-2 draw at home to Alaves left it with just 12 points from its first 17 matches of the campaign.
Valencia is believed to have paid Corberan's release clause of around three million euros.
"Albion has reached an agreement in principle for Carlos Corberan to depart the club to pursue a new opportunity with La Liga side Valencia. The 41-year-old is set to return to his homeland with our gratitude," confirmed West Brom in a statement, while the coach said the decision was "the hardest of my life."
"There will always be a place in my heart for this special club and I hope one day I can return to thank you all for your incredible support," he wrote.
In his time at West Brom, the coach led the club to ninth place in his first season in charge, taking it to fifth last season, while it currently sits in seventh place in the Championship table. Enditem
