MANILA, Dec. 26 (Xinhua) -- A 40-year-old female and a 10-year-old boy were killed and 13 others injured after a speeding pickup truck crashed into a concrete center island in Davao de Oro province in the southern Philippines, police said.

Police said the accident happened before 7 a.m. local time on Wednesday in Mabini town.

The truck carrying 20 people, all relatives, was traveling south to a local beach resort for a Christmas Day outing.

The initial police investigation showed that the truck was overloaded and speeding when it crashed into the concrete barrier in the middle of the road.

The impact tossed the truck's passengers and their belongings onto the road.

TV footage showed the vehicle veered to the roadside after slamming the barrier and landed on its side with a shattered back glass panel. Nearby were its passengers and their belongings. Enditem
