JERUSALEM, Dec. 27 (Xinhua) -- An 83-year-old woman was killed in a stabbing attack in the central city of Herzliya, near Tel Aviv on Friday, according to an Israeli hospital. Police have arrested the suspect responsible for the attack.

Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center said the woman, Ludmila Lipovsky, a resident of a nearby nursing home, was rushed to the hospital in critical condition and unconscious, where she was later pronounced dead.

In a separate statement, the Israeli police said that the attacker was shot and wounded by security guards of a private company who passed by, who was then arrested by police forces arriving at the scene.

According to Israel's state-owned Kan TV News channel, the attacker, 28, is a resident of the Palestinian city of Tulkarm in the West Bank. Enditem
