TEHRAN, Dec. 27 (Xinhua) -- Three people were killed and six others injured, including three children, in an explosion and fire at a residential building in central Iran's Yazd province early on Friday, the semi-official Tasnim news agency reported.

The incident occurred at 2:00 a.m. local time (2230 GMT Thursday) in the provincial capital of Yazd, prompting an immediate response from emergency services, Tasnim said.

The injured, including children aged between four and 15, were taken to hospital. Five have since been discharged, the report added.

The cause of the incident is under investigation. Enditem
