DHAKA, Dec. 29 (Xinhua) -- Bangladeshi government's secretariat, a key administrative hub of the country in capital Dhaka, reopened on Sunday after a temporary closure caused by a devastating fire at building No. 7 of the compound.

Several ministries which were housed in the damaged building have been relocated to alternative government offices in the capital city and elsewhere in the country.

Niyaz Md Tanvir Alam, a senior Public Works Department official, told reporters that power connection has been restored to all buildings except Building No. 7.

He said workspaces in the other buildings in the administrative hub were ready for operations from Sunday.

The massive fire engulfed the nine-story building early Thursday and lasted over six hours. The massive fire reportedly caused significant damage to the fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth floors of the building as the flames had spread rapidly due to the electrical lines. Enditem
