DAMASCUS, Dec. 30 (Xinhua) -- Syria's interim Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani said Monday he has accepted an invitation from Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud to visit the country, which would be his first official trip abroad in his current capacity.
"I gladly accept this invitation and look forward to representing my country on this inaugural visit," al-Shaibani said on social media platform X, stressing the importance of forging "strategic ties with our brothers" in Saudi Arabia across various fields.
There was no immediate comment from Saudi authorities regarding the timing or agenda of the visit.
Al-Shaibani's announcement came as Syria navigates a sensitive political transition following the downfall of the previous government on Dec. 8. Enditem
