RAMALLAH -- Four Palestinian prisoners from Gaza died in Israeli jails, the Palestinian Liberation Organization's (PLO) Prisoners' Affairs Commission and the Prisoners' Club said on Monday.

In a joint press statement released by the two organizations, the four prisoners were identified as Mohammed al-Akka, 44, Samir al-Kahlout, 52, Zuhair al-Sharif, 58, and Mohammed Labad, 57. (Gaza Strip-Hamas-Israel)

SEOUL -- Two people were rescued and five others went missing after a vessel carrying cargo and cars capsized off western South Korea, Yonhap news agency said Monday, citing the coast guard.

It was reported at 6:26 p.m. local time (0926 GMT) that the 83-ton vessel with seven people aboard overturned in waters off Seosan, about 100 km southwest of the capital Seoul. (South Korea-Vessel Overturn)

ATHENS -- A fire broke out at a hotel in Kalabaka, a central Greek town, resulting in the death of the hotel owner and injuries to 10 others, the Fire Brigade reported on Monday.

The 55-year-old man died after jumping from the first floor in an attempt to escape the flames as firefighters arrived on the scene, according to Greek national broadcaster ERT. (Greece-Fire)

NAIROBI -- Kenya's Ministry of Health on Monday called on citizens to strictly adhere to mpox preventive measures, especially during the festive season, as the number of confirmed cases increased to 31.

Mary Muthoni, principal secretary for the Ministry of Health, said in a statement issued in the Kenyan capital of Nairobi that two recent cases were identified in the coastal city of Mombasa and the country's western county of Nakuru, and so far, 12 counties nationwide have recorded mpox cases.
