ANKARA, Dec. 31 (Xinhua) -- Turkish security forces detained 536 suspected members of the Islamic State (IS) in a nationwide operation over the past 12 days, the country's Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said Tuesday.
The operation, dubbed GURZ-34, was conducted across 57 provinces in coordination with prosecutors, the National Intelligence Organization, and the police's counter-terrorism unit, Yerlikaya said on social media platform X.
The suspects allegedly participated in IS activities and maintained connections with conflict zones, the minister noted.
"We are resolute in uprooting terrorism from our country through a comprehensive struggle," he added.
Türkiye designated IS a terrorist organization in 2013, blaming it for a spate of deadly attacks in the country. Ankara has conducted counter-terrorism operations both domestically and abroad to crack down on its members and activities. Enditem
