MANILA, Jan. 1 (Xinhua) -- The Philippines' Department of Health (DOH) said on Wednesday it has tallied 340 firecracker-related injuries nationwide during Christmas and New Year revelries.

The DOH said that the total number of injuries recorded from Dec. 22, 2024, to Jan. 1, 2025, was 34 percent lower than that in the same period of the previous year.

According to the health department, nearly 60 percent of the injuries were caused by prohibited powerful firecrackers.

The DOH said that 239 of the victims were 19 years old and below. Of the 340 cases, 299 were men and 41 women. Enditem
