ISLAMABAD, Jan. 1 (Xinhua) -- Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday called for united efforts to turn 2025 into a year free from hunger, poverty, conflict, terrorism, crime, sectarianism, and social inequality.
According to two separate messages from the President House and Prime Minister House, both leaders extended heartfelt New Year wishes to the citizens of Pakistan and the global community while urging the nation to unite and contribute to the country's development.
Zardari encouraged reflection on the achievements and challenges of the past year, urging Pakistanis to draw lessons from their experiences to chart a path toward a brighter and more prosperous future.
The president underscored the principles of unity, discipline, and hard work as critical to overcoming the nation's pressing challenges while emphasizing the importance of investing in the country's youth, describing them as the backbone of Pakistan's future.
"We must provide resources and opportunities to empower our young generation, enabling them to realize their full potential and support underprivileged segments of society," said the president, adding, "Let us resolve to work tirelessly for public service, peace, and stability."
Sharif also urged the nation to unite and strive for a stronger, more prosperous Pakistan in 2025. "Let us correct the mistakes of the past and embark on a new journey toward a brighter future," said the prime minister.
Highlighting Pakistan's economic journey, the prime minister noted that 2024 was a turning point as the country overcame severe economic challenges and achieved economic progress. "Through resilience and determination, we navigated one of the most challenging years and emerged stronger," added the prime minister.
