AMMAN, Jan. 1 (Xinhua) -- The Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army said on Wednesday that the border guard forces killed several smugglers as they attempted to cross from Syria into the kingdom.

The border guards, who did not reveal the exact number of the killed smugglers, also destroyed the vehicles the smugglers were using when attempting to infiltrate Jordanian territory.

The armed forces vowed they would respond decisively to anyone threatening the country's security, safety, and resources.

Jordan has intensified its efforts to combat smuggling in recent years, as smugglers have increasingly sought to bring drugs and weapons into the kingdom. Enditem
