DHAKA, Jan. 3 (Xinhua) -- The 29th version of the Dhaka International Trade Fair (DITF), the biggest annual event in Bangladesh, is currently taking place at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Center in the capital Dhaka.

Chief Adviser of the Bangladeshi interim government Muhammad Yunus, who inaugurated the month-long fair, declared furniture as the product of the year and highlighted the government's initiative to promote Bangladesh's products in the global market with its diversified presence here Wednesday.

"I urge all businessmen to come forward to invest more in the services sector in addition to products to boost our exports," he said.

As a yearly program of the Bangladeshi government, the DITF is aimed at showcasing local products to foreign buyers.

The exhibition, which covers a floor area of some 1.25 million square feet, showcases a wide range of local and foreign products, including machinery, equipment and materials for agriculture and gardening, carpet, chemical and allied products, cosmetics, dairy products and electronic items, an official from the Exhibition Promotion Bureau said.

Bangladesh's Ministry of Commerce and the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) jointly organized the event.

Hundreds of stalls, pavilions, and mini pavilions have been set up this year at the fair which is usually thronged by tens of thousands of people every day.

It is believed that this year's trade fair will get a significant number of export orders from foreign buyers.

Apart from Bangladeshi businesses, companies from China, India, Indonesia, Pakistan, Singapore and Turkey are participating in the fair.

Bangladesh's EPB under the Ministry of Commerce launched the month-long annual trade fair in 1995.

Previously the fair was held at the west side of the Bangabandhu International Conference Center, which is also known as the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Center in Dhaka.

Since 2022, the trade fair has been held at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Center located in Purbachal on the outskirts of the capital Dhaka. Enditem
