COLOMBO, Jan. 3 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lanka's Export Development Board (EDB) has anticipated export revenue to reach 18.2 billion U.S. dollars in 2025, state media reported on Friday, quoting EDB Chairman Mangala Wijesinghe.
Wijesinghe said that the EDB has set a goal of increasing Sri Lanka's export revenue to 45 billion dollars within the next five years.
In 2024, Sri Lanka recorded 16.2 billion dollars in export revenue, driven by higher-than-expected earnings from the apparel and ICT sectors, he said.
For 2025, the EDB expected several other industries, including gems and jewelry, shipbuilding, logistics, construction, and electronics, to make a greater contribution to export income, Wijesinghe said.
Wijesinghe said the gem and jewelry sector, which currently generates around 400 million dollars annually, has the potential to surpass 1 billion dollars in revenue within the next two years.
Additionally, the EDB was facilitating joint ventures to strengthen the electronic and electrical industries, aiming to diversify and expand the country's export base, Wijesinghe said. Enditem
