BEIRUT, Jan. 3 (Xinhua) -- A Lebanese soldier was injured on Friday when Syrians opened fire on an army unit that was closing an illegal border crossing in eastern Lebanon, the Lebanese army said in a statement.
The Lebanese army unit, which was closing an illegal crossing on the Lebanese-Syrian border in the Ma'arboun-Baalbek area in eastern Lebanon, fired warning shots into the air when Syrians tried to open it with a bulldozer, according to the statement posted on social media platform X.
The Syrians opened fire on Lebanese soldiers, resulting in one soldier being injured and a clash between the two sides, the statement noted.
A Lebanese military source told Xinhua that the Lebanese army "has summoned additional forces to this axis to reinforce it."
Syria has experienced political upheaval as a militant coalition led by the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham group toppled former President Bashar al-Assad's government in early December, prompting many Syrians to flee to Lebanon. Enditem
