SEOUL -- South Korea's Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO) on Friday called on the country's acting president to facilitate the execution of an arrest warrant for impeached President Yoon Suk-yeol.

The anti-corruption investigative unit asked Choi Sang-mok to use his commanding and supervision authorities in capacity of the acting president by ordering the presidential security service to cooperate with the CIO's move for Yoon's arrest. (South Korea-President-Arrest)

TOKYO -- Heavy snow is expected to hit northern and eastern Japan through Saturday, mainly in mountainous areas along the Sea of Japan coast, due to a winter pressure pattern and a cold air mass, the country's weather agency said Friday.

As of 5 a.m. local time Friday, 412 centimeters of snow had accumulated in Sukayu in the Hakkoda mountain range in Aomori Prefecture, more than double the average amount, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA). (Japan-Snow)

SEOUL -- A fire in a commercial and residential building was fully put out a few hours after it broke out in the South Korean city of Seongnam on Friday, with no serious injuries reported, according to Yonhap news agency.

The fire started at 4:37 p.m. local time in the eight-storey building in Yatap-dong in Bundang district of Seongnam, prompting over 300 people to evacuate, Yonhap said, citing local authorities. (South Korea-Fire)

JAKARTA -- Eight people were killed after a speedboat carrying 30 passengers sank in the waters off Seram Bagian Barat regency in Indonesia's eastern Maluku Province on Friday, according to the head of the provincial search and rescue office, Muhammad Arafah.

Arafah said that the speedboat, Dua Nona, struck a piece of wood floating on the water's surface at approximately 10:00 a.m. local time, which caused damage to the boat's hull. (Indonesia-Accident) Enditem
