BEIRUT, Jan. 3 (Xinhua) -- Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati and Ahmed Al-Sharaa, head of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham and Syria's de facto leader, held a phone conversation on Friday to discuss common issues and bilateral ties, according to a statement by Mikati's office.

During the phone call, the two talked over relations between the two countries, and touched on the clashes between the Lebanese army and Syrian militants on the border in eastern Lebanon, the statement said.

The statement noted that Mikati has received an invitation from Al-Sharaa to visit Syria to discuss issues concerning both nations.

For his part, Al-Sharaa affirmed that its administration has taken all the necessary measures to restore calm on the border between the two countries and prevent further clashes.

The Lebanese army announced on Friday that four Lebanese soldiers were injured during clashes with Syrian militants on the Lebanese-Syrian border. Enditem
