KABUL, Jan. 4 (Xinhua) -- The Afghan caretaker government's Ministry of Commerce and Industry plans to rebuild and reactivate 14 cold storage facilities across the country, aiming at helping farmers preserve their agricultural products and sell them at fair prices throughout the year, the ministry's spokesman, Akhundzada Abdul Salam Jawad, told local media on Saturday.

According to the spokesman, these facilities will be located in the provinces of Lowgar, Parwan, Kapisa, and Wardak. Once operational, they are expected to improve the preservation of agricultural goods.

Cold storage facilities play a crucial role in the agricultural sector, enabling Afghan farmers and food distributors to maintain and transport perishable items for extended durations, reducing waste and ensuring fresh products reach consumers throughout the year.

Afghan farmers often face losses as the lack of cold storage facilities forces them to sell their products cheaper to avoid spoilage. Enditem
