DOHA, Jan. 4 (Xinhua) -- Qatari Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mohammed bin Abdulaziz bin Saleh Al Khulaifi on Saturday held phone talks with Syria's interim Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani on bilateral ties and recent developments in Syria.

The two discussed ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation, and highlighted Qatar's ongoing humanitarian aid efforts to the Syrian people, said a statement by the Qatari Foreign Ministry.

During the talks, Al Khulaifi reaffirmed Qatar's steadfast support for Syria across various fields, particularly in humanitarian and developmental initiatives, the statement said.

For his part, al-Shaibani expressed gratitude for Qatar's unwavering support for the Syrian people and their aspirations, it added.

On Friday, in a post on social media platform X following his return from a two-day trip to Saudi Arabia, al-Shaibani announced the plan to visit Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and Jordan in the coming week, in an effort to bolster Syria's stability, security, and economic recovery.

On Dec. 21, 2024, Qatar officially reopened its embassy in the Syrian capital Damascus, raising its national flag over the building for the first time in 13 years. Enditem
