THE HAGUE, Jan. 5 (Xinhua) -- Widespread snowfall in the Netherlands has caused travel disruptions, including the cancellation and delay of dozens of flights at Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport on Sunday, as well as traffic accidents.
The Dutch national weather institute, KNMI, issued a code yellow weather alert overnight for most of the country. The alert now applies specifically to the central, eastern, and northeastern regions, warning of slippery road conditions and reduced visibility.
A spokesperson for Schiphol Airport confirmed to Dutch media that about 70 flights have been canceled, mainly affecting routes to European destinations.
The snowy conditions have also led to multiple road accidents across the country, though no injuries or fatalities have been reported so far.
KNMI has advised travelers to stay informed on weather and transport updates and to exercise caution while commuting. Enditem
