VIENTIANE, Jan. 6 (Xinhua) -- The Lao Art Museum, the largest museum in the country, officially opened to the public, marking a significant milestone in the nation's cultural preservation efforts, which is expected to become a popular tourist attraction for both domestic and international visitors.

A grand opening ceremony was held in the Lao capital, Vientiane, on Sunday and attended by Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone.

The museum features an array of traditional Lao woodcarvings, highlighting the intricate craftsmanship that is a cornerstone of the nation's cultural identity. It also provides a platform to showcase creativity across generations, promoting sustainability, environmental awareness, and cultural preservation.

The museum is expected to create local job opportunities, support businesses, and attract global visitors. It also aims to inspire the next generation of Lao artists, fostering a deeper connection to cultural identity and creativity.

The museum is a beacon of Laos' rich artistic heritage, reflecting the nation's enduring commitment to cultural preservation.

The museum is located in Xaythany district in Vientiane. Construction began in 2021, with the project having a budget of more than 50 million U.S. dollars. The museum spans 80 hectares and aims to create a cultural, artistic, and natural tourism resource. Enditem
