HANOI, Jan. 6 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam's leather and footwear industry has targeted an export value of 29 billion U.S. dollars this year, an increase of 10 percent year-on-year, Vietnam News cited the Leather, Footwear and Handbag Association on Monday.
Phan Thi Thanh Xuan, the association's vice chairwoman and general secretary, said achieving this goal would depend on consumer demand and implementing green standards and sustainable development requirements set by foreign markets.
Nguyen Duc Thuan, the association's chairman, said the industry had also set a goal of achieving 38-40 billion dollars in the total export value by 2030.
A number of large enterprises have signed export contracts to produce until mid-2025.
Vietnam's leather, footwear and handbag industry in 2024 achieved a total export value of around 27 billion dollars, an increase of 11.5 percent year-on-year, despite facing pressure with falling prices, higher quality demands, increasing input costs and labor shortages, said the association.
