ZAGREB, Jan. 6 (Xinhua) -- Security guards have been deployed to all of the 142 schools in the Croatian capital one day before the opening of the new semester, Zagreb Deputy Mayor Luka Korlaet said on Monday.

The move came after one child was killed and five others, including three children, were injured in a knife attack that occurred on Dec. 20 at the Precko Elementary School in Zagreb.

The attacker, a 19-year-old person, entered the school at that time and began randomly attacking students and a teacher with a knife before he was eventually subdued.

According to the security protocols adopted after the knife attack, the entrance door of the school institution, as well as all other entrances or exits, must be locked during all working hours, and parents will only be able to enter at an agreed time with prior notice or upon invitation from the school institution.

The Ministry of Science and Education has opened a public consultation on the draft amendment to regulations that introduce a new job position in schools, an operational officer for safety and civil protection. Enditem
