Attempted armed intrusion at Belgian prime minister's office

BRUSSELS, Jan. 6 (Xinhua) -- A knife-wielding man attempted to breach the premises at 16 Rue de la Loi in Brussels, the office of the Belgian prime minister, on Monday morning. The suspect was swiftly apprehended by military police on site, Belgian authorities confirmed.

Officials said the individual threatened military personnel before being subdued. He was taken to a police station for questioning. No injuries were reported among law enforcement personnel.

Acting Prime Minister Alexander De Croo expressed gratitude to law enforcement for their prompt and effective response.

An investigation is underway to determine the circumstances and motives behind the incident. Security around government institutions has been heightened following the event. Enditem
