BAGHDAD, Jan. 6 (Xinhua) -- Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani said on Monday that his country will continue to strengthen its army's capabilities to confront potential challenges and threats.

In a televised address to commemorate the 104th anniversary of the founding of the Iraqi army, Al-Sudani, also the commander-in-chief of the Iraqi forces, emphasized that the government will continue to diversify sources of weapons and acquire the most advanced weapons to ensure full preparedness.

For his part, Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid said in a statement that the celebration of the Iraqi Army Day came amid ever-growing security challenges.

"We must unite, put political differences aside, and place national interests above narrow partisan agendas," said the president. Enditem
