SAO PAULO, Jan. 6 (Xinhua) -- The Brazilian Foreign Ministry announced on Monday the official entry of Indonesia as a full member into BRICS, marking the first expansion of the group after Brazil assumed the rotating presidency for 2025.

"Indonesia shares with other BRICS members the support for the reform of global governance institutions and contributes positively to deepening cooperation in the Global South, priorities that align with Brazil's theme for its presidency," the Brazilian ministry said in a statement.

Indonesia's accession was approved at BRICS' Johannesburg Summit in August 2023 and formalized following the formation of the new government in the Asian country.

The Brazilian government also said that some 100 meetings will be held in 2025 by the specific working groups of BRICS members during President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva's administration. Enditem
