Myanmar's police destroy over 500 acres of opium in eastern Myanmar

YANGON, Jan. 7 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar's police have destroyed 563 acres of opium fields in eastern Myanmar's Shan state, the state-run daily Myanma Alinn reported on Tuesday.

The fields were located in Panglong town in Loilem township of Shan state, it said.

The opium fields, which were grown in hilly areas and on mountain slopes, were eliminated between Dec. 31, 2024, and Jan. 6, 2025, it added.

Around 960 acres of opium fields were also destroyed in the same area between Dec. 7 and Dec. 15 last year. Enditem
