CANBERRA, Jan. 8 (Xinhua) -- Four people have been killed in a crash involving a stolen vehicle in far north Australia.

Police in the Northern Territory (NT) said that a gray vehicle was involved in a head-on collision with another vehicle in the Yirrkala Community -- 650 km east of Darwin in the remote East Arnhem region -- shortly after 7:15 a.m. local time on Wednesday.

Emergency services were deployed to the scene of the crash where four people were declared deceased -- three from the gray car and one from the other vehicle.

A second occupant of the second vehicle suffered minor injuries.

NT Police, Fire and Emergency Services (PFES) said in a statement that the gray car was reported stolen from a residence in the small town of Nhulunbuy -- 14 km northwest of Yirrkala -- at 6:45 a.m. and was reported to be driving dangerously shortly before the crash.

A crime scene has been established and a team from the major crash unit deployed to investigate the circumstances of the crash, NT PFES said. Enditem
