JAKARTA, Jan. 8 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia has announced Dutch football legend Patrick Kluivert as the new coach for its national men's football team, the country's football governing body said on Wednesday.

On its official website, the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) said that Kluivert, who replaces South Korean coach Shin Tae-yong, dismissed on Monday, has signed an initial two-year contract running from 2025 to 2027, with an option for extension.

The 48-year-old is expected to arrive in the Southeast Asian country on Saturday.

As a player, Kluivert was a striker, most notably for Ajax Amsterdam and Barcelona. He also represented the Netherlands in four major tournaments, including the 1998 World Cup, where it finished fourth.

The PSSI also announced that while coaching the national team, Kluivert will be assisted by several Dutch assistant coaches, including Alex Pastoor and Denny Landzaat. Additionally, two local Indonesian coaches will join as assistant coaches.

Kluivert will be officially introduced as the new coach on Sunday.

According to the PSSI, Kluivert's debut as head coach will take place on March 20, when Indonesia faces Australia in Sydney during the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. Enditem
