NEW YORK, Jan. 8 (Xinhua) -- Amazon.com plans to spend at least 11 billion U.S. dollars to expand its cloud and artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure in the U.S. state of Georgia, as global tech companies boost their data-center footprints amid a boom in demand for AI computing.

Amazon Web Services (AWS), the U.S. tech giant's cloud-computing arm, said on Tuesday the investment aims to meet the increased demand for advanced cloud infrastructure and compute power, driven by generative AI. "AWS's investments will support the future of AI from data centers in Georgia," it said.

These include technical roles such as data-center engineers, network specialists, engineering operations managers and security specialists. It will also support thousands of local construction jobs and positions in the data-center supply chain, The Wall Street Journal cited AWS in its report about the move.

Amazon has invested 18.5 billion dollars in the southeastern state since 2010, according to the company. Enditem
