PHNOM PENH, Jan. 9 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia attracted 6.7 million foreign visitors in 2024, up 22.9 percent year-on-year, said a spokesperson of the Ministry of Tourism on Thursday.

Hun Dany, who is also the ministry's secretary of state, said Cambodia's top five tourism markets last year were Thailand, Vietnam, China, Laos, and the United States.

She attributed the significant growth to the kingdom's peace, political stability, attractive tourist destinations and good hospitality.

"For 2025, we expect to attract some 7 million international tourists," she told Xinhua. "China remains our key tourism market."

Since the start of this year, the Cambodian government has lowered the visa fee for tourist type (e-Visa T) to 30 U.S. dollars from 36 dollars, and the fee for regular type (e-Visa E) to 35 dollars from 42 dollars.

Dany said the move would help attract more foreign tourists and investors to the Southeast Asian country.

Tourism is one of the four pillars supporting Cambodia's economy in addition to garment, footwear and travel goods export, agriculture, and construction and real estate.

The spokesperson said the country is famous for the Angkor Archaeological Park, a UNESCO-listed world heritage site, in northwestern Siem Reap province, and a beautiful bay stretching over four southwestern provinces of Preah Sihanouk, Kampot, Kep, and Koh Kong.

Besides, the country has three other world heritage sites, namely the Temple Zone of Sambor Prei Kuk in central Kampong Thom province, and the Temple of Preah Vihear and the Koh Ker archaeological site in northwestern Preah Vihear province. Enditem
