NEW DELHI, Jan. 10 (Xinhua) -- Five members of a family, including husband, wife and their three children, were found dead inside their house in India's northern state of Uttar Pradesh, a senior police official said on Friday.

The incident was reported from Uttar Pradesh's Meerut town, nearly 46 miles from New Delhi.

Meerut Senior Superintendent of Police Vipin Tada said the house was locked from outside. The bodies of the three children, all girls aged 1, 4 and 8, were found stuffed inside a bed-box, while those of the couple were found on the floor.

All the deceased had head injuries, he said.

"Preliminary investigations have hinted at a motive of personal enmity for the murder. The house was locked from the outside. This hints that the perpetrator was known to the family," he added. Enditem
