KABUL, Jan. 10 (Xinhua) -- Afghanistan's national currency, the afghani, has weakened against the U.S. dollar over the past few weeks, the local media ToloNews reported Friday.
According to the report, foreign exchange rate by the central bank indicated that the value of one U.S. dollar has increased by three afghani during the past three weeks.
Currently, one U.S. dollar is traded at 72.30 afghani, compared to 69 afghani three weeks ago.
The depreciation has contributed to an increase in prices of both food and non-food items in markets in the capital Kabul.
Local reports suggested that shortage of U.S. dollars in the market and a heightened demand were major factors behind the fluctuation of foreign exchange rate. Enditem
