JAKARTA, Jan. 10 (Xinhua) -- The Indonesian government is ready to launch its first overseas carbon trading on Jan. 20, the country's Ministry of Forest and Environment said on Friday.

In a statement, the ministry said that the first foreign carbon trade would be carried out through the Indonesian Carbon Exchange and involve several strategic energy projects as part of efforts to achieve Indonesia's climate targets.

Forest and Environment Minister Hanif Faisol Nurofiq said that the launch would be carried out by ensuring the optimization of the National Registry System, as well as preparation of infrastructure and other instruments.

The minister ensured that carbon trade was aimed at realizing Indonesia's climate targets as stated in the National Determined Contribution document.

Indonesia is committed to reducing emissions by 31.89 percent through its own efforts and 43.20 percent with international assistance by 2030 while aiming for net zero carbon emissions by 2060. Enditem
