WARSAW, Jan. 10 (Xinhua) -- The Polish Swimming Association appointed Bartosz Kizierowski as the new head coach of Poland's national swimming team on Friday.

Specializing in sprint distances, Kizierowski is one of the most decorated Polish swimmers, winning 50m freestyle gold medals at the European Championships in Berlin (2002) and Budapest (2006). He also took bronze in the same event at the 2005 World Championships in Montreal.

He replaced Pawel Wolkow in charge as the new coach of the national team.

"We want to improve the organization and raise the importance of being a representative of Poland. Kizierowski is well-known and appreciated in the international environment. He will help the team with his knowledge," said Otylia Jedrzejczak, president of the country's swimming association.

Kizierowski believes that the team can achieve success.

"My mission will be to help the swimmers use their potential. I would like Polish swimming to be more united, to create a team atmosphere and learn from each other. The athletes are the most important for me," he was quoted as saying by the official site of the association. Enditem
