KABUL, Jan. 11 (Xinhua) -- A total of 1,200 Afghan patients who suffer from mental illnesses have received free medical treatment in Afghanistan's capital Kabul, local media Tolo News reported Saturday.

According to the report, the Afghan Red Crescent Society has provided free treatment to 1,200 psychiatric patients from families unable to afford medical care, and after receiving treatment at psychological centers, these patients will return to their families.

More than 1,000 mental health sufferers are receiving free medication and treatment at home, the report added.

Although the war is over, its aftereffects -- such as unemployment, economic hardship, mental illness, and several other issues -- remain in society and continue to plague the victims. Enditem
