MADRID, Jan. 11 (Xinhua) -- Former Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Ander Herrera is on the verge of completing a move to Argentinian side Boca Juniors.

The 35-year-old is currently in the third year of his second spell at Athletic Bilbao, but will be out of contract at the end of the season and the club is willing to let him leave.

Reports in Spain and Argentina confirm that Herrera has reached an agreement with Boca Juniors, a club he has openly admired.

"It has always been a dream of mine to go to La Bombonera. My father traveled a lot to Argentina when he worked for Zaragoza and Celta and he told me about the ground," Herrera said in an interview from a visit to Argentina in 2023, when he was photographed at Boca's famous ground wearing the club shirt.

Joining Boca would also see him reunited with former United teammates Marcos Rojo and Sergio Romero, as well as ex-PSG colleague Edinson Cavani.

Herrera returned to Athletic in 2022. Although he is an important member of the squad both on and off the pitch, his second spell at the club has been affected by continued muscle problems.

This has limited him to just over 400 minutes of competitive action this season, with most of his appearances coming as a second-half substitute. Enditem
