BANGKOK -- A Chinese citizen surnamed Wang has departed from Thailand for China on Friday night following collaborative efforts from both countries, as confirmed by the Chinese embassy in Thailand.

SEOUL -- The black box of a passenger jet that crashed in South Korea's southwestern airport late last month failed to work for the last four minutes, the transport ministry said Saturday.
The result of analyzing the ill-fated airplane's flight data recorder (FDR) and cockpit voice recorder (CVR) by the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board showed that data storage in both the FDR and the CVR stopped about four minutes before its crash into a localizer, according to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. WELLINGTON -- Chinese research icebreaker Xuelong 2, or Snow Dragon 2, departed from a port in Christchurch, New Zealand on Thursday to carry out a month-long marine ecosystem survey in the Amundsen Sea.

TOKYO -- The number of influenza patients reported at designated medical institutions across Japan in the final week of December hit the highest level since current record-keeping began in 1999, according to the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare.
